Cocktail and Taco Pairings

Tacos are undoubtedly one of the best things in life. But there is in fact something that can make them even better: the perfect drink pairing.

Perhaps the most famous accompaniments to tacos are beer and tequila. However, if you want to venture off the beaten path, at Borracha Mexican Cantina, we have a splendid bar menu full of tempting cocktail pairings to enjoy with your taco plate. Here, we’ve put together a guide to what we think are some of the most tantalizing taco-cocktail pairings. The hardest part is choosing which pairing to try first!

Traditional tacos

Our traditional tacos come with 3 tacos per plate. Take your choice of crispy or soft, flour or corn tortillas. They’re served with shredded lettuce, a cheddar/jack cheese blend, arbol sauce, and Cholula sauce.

Al Pastor Chicken:

Al pastor style meats feature thin meat shavings which are marinated with spices and sometimes pineapple. They’re a little sweet…and a little savory, all at the same time. At Borracha, we feature Chicken Al Pastor in our traditional tacos.

What to drink with them:

The slight sweetness of the chicken pairs beautifully with our Mango Margarita, which is made with Hornitos Plata Tequila, mango, fresh lime juice, and agave nectar. For something a little different that packs some sweet and heat at once, try them with our Pinche Pina cocktail, which is made with Absolut Elyx Vodka, pineapple chili shrub, Velvet Falernum, lemon, and seltzer.

Carne Asada Steak:

Carne asada translates as  “grilled meat”. And that’s what it is: grilled meat, in this case, sliced beef. That’s the key ingredient in our delicious carne asada steak tacos!

What to drink with them:

A classic taco calls for a classic drink. These savory tacos taste incredible with our La Casa Margarita, which is made with Hornitos Plata Tequila, fresh lime juice, and agave nectar. But if you feel like trying something not so classic, give it a try with our El Matador cocktail, a buzzy mixture of Casamigos Blanco Tequila, orange, lemon, and Red Bull Red Edition.

Grilled Mahi Mahi:

Light and refreshing, these tacos are made with mahi mahi, roasted corn salsa, poblano creme, and cilantro.

What to drink with them:

The earthy flavors of the roasted corn and poblano creme in these tacos pair beautifully with the citrus flavors in our  Mi Amigos 57′ Cadillac Margarita, which is made with Casamigos Blanco Tequila, fresh lime juice, agave nectar, and Grand Marnier. For an alternative from our cocktail list, consider the Slowpoke Rodriguez, which is made with Absolut Lime Vodka, strawberry, hibiscus, lime, seltzer, and mint. It’s bright and perfect with the light flavors of these mahi mahi tacos.

Street tacos

Our street tacos come with 3 tacos per plate. Take your pick: we can make them with flour or corn tortillas. They’re served with pickled vegetables and crispy chips.

Achiote Chicken:

Achiote paste is a Mexican condiment which is made from annatto seeds. Its flavor is mild and earthy, and it works beautifully with proteins. It imparts a rich, deep flavor on the chicken contained in these tasty tacos!

What to drink with them:

The earthiness of the achiote paste gets a zippy upgrade from our Blood Orange Margarita, which is made with Hornitos Plata Tequila, blood orange, fresh lime juice, and agave nectar. Not in the mood for a marg (or, ready for a second round)? Try it with our Pablo Chacon cocktail, which is made with Casamigos Blanco Tequila, cucumber essence, jalapeno, lime, and cilantro.

Carne Asada Steak

The same memorable carne asada that you can order in our traditional tacos is also available in our street tacos; however, the different accompaniments with the dish make it a different culinary experience.

What to drink with them:

Once again, a classic dish calls for a classic drink. These tacos taste great with our Mi Amigos 57′ Cadillac Margarita, which is made with Casamigos Blanco Tequila, fresh lime juice, agave nectar, and Grand Marnier. The rich red meat also tastes great with the contrast of our Sangria Roja, which is made with Cruzan Aged Rum, Fundador Brandy, Dry Curacao, citrus, and red wine. That Sangria is available by the glass or by the pitcher!

Al Pastor Pork

These tacos are filled with an al pastor filling which is similar to the chicken al pastor described above, but in this case, it’s made with pork. These tacos are served with pineapple coleslaw.

What to drink with them:

The citrus sweetness goes well with our Mango Margarita, which is made with Hornitos Plata Tequila, mango, fresh lime juice, and agave nectar. If you feel like sharing, they also taste incredible with our One-Eyed Willy cocktail, which is designed to serve two. It is made with Botran Reserva Rum, Cruzan Aged 151 Rum, Hennessy Black, passion fruit, pineapple, lemon, orgeat, and hibiscus.

As you can see, we have plenty of tasty drink pairings for our tacos that go way beyond just tequila! Come visit our Henderson Mexican restaurant soon and see for yourself how delicious these pairings can be.
